How and Why to Hire a Real Estate Assistant

All the great heroes have support. Sherlock Holmes had Dr. Watson. Batman had Robin. Real estate professionals have their administrative assistants. If you don’t have your admin assistant yet, or as we like to call it, your empowered champion, finding one should be your top priority. We like to call admin the empowered champions because they have all the tools to help your business succeed, and they are a champion for your cause. Without a good admin, your productivity won’t be able to reach its highest potential.

Why a Rockstar Admin is a Game-changer

When you hire a real estate assistant, you’ll have time to work on your business, instead of in your business. When you’re trying to grow your business, you shouldn’t be spending time on tasks that can be systematically outsourced to another person on your team. These types of tasks will distract you from the things that only you can do. Your admin assistant can handle the details, while you handle the tasks that drive growth. You’ll easily make back any money spent on hiring an assistant because you’ll finally have time to focus on the important stuff.

Everyone needs someone who always has their back. A great admin sees things from a different perspective and is reliable in offering their opinion. They’ll get to know the ins and outs of your business, so you can count on them to offer valuable insights. Your admin could see ways to reconfigure the budget or ways you could improve your marketing that you may not have been able to see on your own.

As you build trust with your admin, you’ll be able to have more time to yourself outside of work. Your assistant will be able to run things in your absence, so you can take vacations without constantly checking your email. Best of all, you’ll be able to spend time with your family without being interrupted by phone calls.

Hiring the Perfect Admin

You’re going to be spending a lot of time with your real estate assistant. When you’re not together, you’ll likely be in regular communication. Even if someone has perfect organizational skills, you need someone you get along with. Get to know the potential candidates thoroughly before hiring an admin. Ask questions about more than just their resumes. Figure out if you’re hiring someone that you’ll enjoy being around.

An interview is the perfect opportunity to showcase the culture of your business. It’s important for both you and your future employee to feel like they’re a cultural fit. If you’ve created a supportive, engaging, and positive culture, the right employees will probably find you.

Don’t worry too much about finding someone with the perfect resume, filled with years of experience in administrative work. Teaching someone how to do those things is the easy part. The hard part is ensuring that your new hire is someone who can work hard to support you and your team as your work toward common goals.

Often, the best admin are created, rather than found. A team leader can train the right hire on administrative duties, but it is much harder to teach someone to have a good work ethic or a positive attitude. Don’t be afraid to hire someone who has the right qualities of an assistant, even if they don’t know everything about the job yet. Training is the easy part.
